LA MESA — It’s more like football’s “American Idol,” played out on a football field and in a classroom. But, while the ultimate goal behind Steve Clarkson’s 15-city “Dreammaker Tour” is to find the best young quarterbacks in the United States, it exists to teach them there’s more to the most important position in sports than a live arm and tight spiral.

• I learned ... that one of the things that profoundly effected Jimmy Clausen and motivates him to this day was watching his older brother Casey sit through the entire 2004 draft without getting selected. Casey performed well at Tennessee but his phone never rang. When the draft finally ended, Casey walked right up to Jimmy and said, "That's never gonna happen to you." Anyone who's a younger brother (like me) understands the impact that had on Jimmy. "That was a tough moment for him and for the rest of our family, but it drove me to another level," Jimmy says. "Every time I work out or play, I have that in the back of my mind, that I don't want that to happen to me and I have to do everything I can not to let that happen."

ORLANDO, Fla. -- The Orlando stop on the Steve Clarkson Dreammaker Tour might have been the best of the seven events so far this year. Loaded with talented quarterbacks, it was 2012 prospect Bennie Coney (Tampa, Fla./Plant City) who was impossible to ignore Saturday in the Citrus Bowl.

ORLANDO, Fla. -- This past weekend, the Steve Clarkson Dreammaker tour hit the Sunshine State. The sun, however, wasn't the only thing shining. The top quarterback talent Florida and other states brought was on display, and the on-field talent was a sight to behold.
